Originally from Belgium, I have always been passionate about animals. Whether horses, dogs or cats, each encounter with them was a source of happiness.

As a child, I was often late at school because I could not resist the desire to cuddle every animal I met on my way. It is quite natural that I became a volunteer at the SPA to assist abandoned animals requiring care and attention.

Later, I instilled this love of nature and animals to my two daughters, who also chose professional careers in the equestrian field.

This passion has become an art of living and led me to train in the practice of Shiatsu, a discipline that allows me to stay in touch with animals while bringing them well-being and serenity.

Today, I put my expertise and know-how at the service of those who wish to offer their four-legged companions quality energy care.

But what is shiatsu ?

Shiatsu is a therapeutic practice of Japanese origin based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It is a form of massage that uses rhythmic pressures exercised with thumbs, fingers and palms on specific points of the body, called acupuncture points or meridians.

The aim of the Shiatsu is to restore the energy balance of the body, to promote the circulation of vital energy (the « Qi ») and stimulate the body's self-healing capabilities.

Shiatsu stands out for its approach holistictaking into account not only the physical symptoms, but also the emotional and mental aspects of the person.

Each session is tailored to the individual needs of the patient, and the practitioner uses different techniques to relieve tensions and harmonize the energy flow.

In addition to facilitating the flow of energy, a shiatsu treatment can also have other beneficial effects.

Emotional impressions and experiences are often rooted in specific areas of the body or associated with certain organs. Shiatsu can free these ancient experiences and put them back in motion, allowing you to live more serenely.

In summary, shiatsu is a preventive or curative natural care method that aims to maintain the balance and health of the body and mind, using gentle but effective pressure and handling techniques.

On animals

Although Shiatsu is traditionally used to relieve tensions and improve energy circulation in humans, its principles can also be applied to animals. Some of the main benefits of Shiatsu to animals include:

  • Reducing stress and anxiety
  • Relief of local or generalized joint and muscle pain
  • Improved blood and lymphatic circulation
  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Relieving respiratory problems
  • Improving skin problems
  • Improved posture and mobility
  • Assistance in the management of behavioural disorders
  • Improved digestion
  • Abscesses

Shiatsu is a gentle and natural practice that can offer a lot of benefits to animals, regardless of their physical and emotional condition.

They are generally very receptive to Shiatsu sessions, and it is fascinating to see how they can relax and enjoy the benefits of this ancestral practice.

My method

sally and a grey mare

During each treatment, I begin by passing my hands over the animal's body to make a diagnosis. By applying pressure to some meridians and specific points, o Observe animal reactions, especially of the horse, and I ask questions to better understand the symptoms and their possible causes.

Shiatsu is a holistic healing method. I am not just focusing on the symptom, but I am looking at the whole context, including food, the environment and even the owner of the animal.

Once I have a clear vision of the whole, I start the treatment by massaging specific points to eliminate blockages in meridians. These massage movements allow Energy to circulate freely again, allowing the body of the animal to fully mobilize its own healing powers.

Self-healing power is present in every living being. J

portrait of Carol

Sally has come to my rescue on several occasions, both dog and horses related.
Our spaniel had a severe lameness and Sally could help heal him in 3 or 4 sessions only. She was also able to cure one of our exmoor ponies of a sweet itch while I tried to treat him for several years without success.
She was able to greatly help our appaloosa in boosting her immune system.
We also called on Sally in an emergency to relieve colic on one of our ponies.
I unhesitatingly recommend Sally and her skills, she has magic hands. She is a truly remarkable person and healer.

My horse had a lot of tension at the lumbar level, it was difficult to engage his posterior, but from the first session there was a marked improvement in his locomotion.
During the sessions, there is a real connection between my horse and Sally. She is always listening, patient and very professional.

Sally has been treating both our horses as well as our senior dog regularly for several years now, not only when something was wrong but also just for maintaining their wellbeing.
Every time she puts her magical, healing hands on their bodies I could tell that they instantly feel the positive energy coming from her. It’s quite astonishing to watch what reaction a simple soft touch in the right spot can trigger.
Sally’s vast knowledge paired with her gentle personality is the best recipe for a successful treatment of your beloved animal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a Shiatsu session usually take place?

A Shiatsu session for horses usually lasts between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m.. It takes place in a place where the horse feels comfortable, whether in his stable, in a paddock or in a meadow. The comfort and tranquillity of the animal is paramount to ensure the effectiveness of the treatment.
I start with an initial assessment to identify areas of tension and energy blockages. Then, I use gentle and rhythmic pressures on specific points of the horse body to restore energy balance and stimulate self-healing abilities. Each session is tailored to individual needs the horse, thus ensuring a personalized care with all benevolence.

Can shiatsu replace a veterinary opinion?

Equine Shiatsu is a complementary practice that can bring many benefits to horses, especially in terms of well-being and relaxation.
However, it must not replace a veterinary opinion. Veterinarians are animal health professionals trained to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries. Shiatsu can be used in addition to veterinary care to help relieve tensions and improve the quality of life of the animal, but it is essential to consult a veterinarian for any serious or persistent health problems.

My mare / dog / cat is pregnant, is that a problem?

Shiatsu should not be used on an animal in gestation. Pressure and handling techniques used in shiatsu can potentially cause adverse reactions in pregnant females, endangering their health and that of their young. In addition, certain acupuncture points are specifically contraindicated during pregnancy because of their stimulating effects on the uterus.

Can I work my horse after a shiatsu session?

After a shiatsu session, it is essential to allow the animal to rest at least 24 to 48 hours to maximize the benefits of treatment.
Shiatsu stimulates energy circulation and can cause significant physiological and emotional changes. A rest period allows the animal to integrate these changes and recover. It is recommended to leave the animal in a quiet and comfortable environment, where it can relax without being disturbed. This rest time promotes deep relaxation and helps to release residual tensions.. By respecting this need for rest, you help strengthen the positive effects of Shiatsu and to improve the general well-being of your animal.

Can shiatsu be practiced on a young or old animal?

Adapting a shiatsu session for a young or elderly animal is essential to ensure its well-being and efficacy. Young animals, still growing, require softer pressures and techniques adapted to their physical and emotional development. They can be more sensitive and responsive, which requires a delicate and progressive approach.
Conversely, older animals may suffer from chronic pain, joint stiffness or specific health conditions that require special attention. Adjust pressure intensity and duration of sessions to avoid excessive fatigue and maximize therapeutic benefits.
Taking into account the age and health of the animal, Shiatsu can offer optimal support at every stage of his life..

Can you respond quickly to an emergency?

Although Shiatsu can offer significant benefits in terms of relaxation and well-being, it is crucial to immediately consult a veterinarian for any emergency. Veterinarians are trained to diagnose and treat critical medical conditions (colic, poisoning, etc.), and their rapid intervention can be vital for the survival and recovery of the animal. Shiatsu can be considered as a supplement to veterinary careto help relieve stress and promote healing, but it must never delay or replace emergency medical care.
